Momiji Health Care Society
ROAD TO WELLNESS PROJECT.
Due to the effects of the COVID-19 lockdown, Japanese-Canadian seniors, who were sedentary for long periods of time are now facing negative consequences associated with social under-stimulation and deconditioning.
The “Roads to Wellness” project strives to strengthen our community of Japanese Canadians seniors including survivors by empowering them with tools and resources to facilitate a more complete understanding of wellness.
The “Roads to Wellness” project is supported by a theoretical framework that states the importance of acknowledging multiple domains of wellness – physical, intellectual, emotional, social and cultural, and spiritual.
By creating opportunities in the form of activities and programs to improve these various aspects of wellness, it is Momiji’s hope that Japanese Canadian survivors will benefit from a more holistic approach to improving wellness.
Furthermore, the “Roads to Wellness” project also wishes to empower seniors to take control of their own wellness by incorporating healthy routines that can be maintained independently. We anticipate that this independent program will receive about 82 visits per week – over 4,000 visits in the first year alone.
