The event will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2022. The day will begin with an Obon Service with a distinguished guest minister and various activities including children’s games, various Japanese foods and entertainment. Entertainment will include a Taiko presentation and a performance from a noted Odori dance group. The main attraction will be the Obon dancing for everyone. It attracts dancers from the Vancouver lower mainland. The Steveston Buddhist Temple Obon Festival attracts as many as 1000 people from Richmond and the lower mainland. Survivor members of the SBT and non member survivors in the community gather for the Obon Festival and look forward to this event. This is beneficial for survivors social and mental wellness. It offers survivors the opportunity to meet with friends and family while enjoying Japanese culture, tradition, entertainment and community support. It also offers an opportunity of intergenerational awareness, respect and gratitude.
